Supporting young composers for 8 years.

 Festival ‘22

Thrilled to have resumed in-person!

Annual Festival of Contemporary Music

Sunday 1st May

Martin Read Hall, Alton College

Huge thanks to Steve Kirby for the filming...

It was a day packed with new music and premieres - a mix of live, on-line and pre-recorded music.

  • Music for flexible ensemble by Ellen Drewe - Alton College & MRF alumnus;

  • music for choral singing by Alison Willis, Simon Speare, Alan Bullard and Howard Skempton;

  • music for the film animation ‘Spring’, by MRF’s 2022 young composer award-holders:            Ella Laughton, Naomi Dragomir and Daniel Jurado-Hoshino - pictured above mid-front row, (with, L to R: Beccy Read - trustee, Pande Shahov & Simon Speare - mentors, and Dan Keen - composer-in-residence.)

Ella says:

I compose because there is no other feeling like it.

Supporting the day were:

Ellen Drew workshopping her composition:

Don't Burn your Bridges until after you've crossed them

Workshops and rehearsals during the day were followed by Composers in Conversation and the Concert of Premiers.

Alan Bullard and Alison Willis Zoomed into the Conversations

Performers and audience alike were wowed:

Small yet perfectly formed…

really enjoyed the music-making…

fantastically talented young people…

the chance to work with such great musicians… hearing the work of the young composers…

all seemed brilliantly thought through.

Thanks to all who helped to make this such a

great event.
